Quad-Screen test??

Ok so my dr. ordered a quad screen test for me and told me to go take it on the 17th because thats when I would be in the timeline to take it.. Ever since I got the bloodwork done i've been worried sick… what if there is something wrong with my baby and I almost would rather not know until after pregnancy.. He said its rutine at our hospital to run them on everyone but i'm still really worried for my baby.

its a routine test, but you can refuse to take it. I refused it with all three of my pregnancies. You have to ask yourself this. Lets say god forbid, it comes back that there is something wrong. Are you going to do anything about it (ie, abort it?) If not, I don't see the point in doing it. Like you said, why stress through your entire pregnancy.

I also know a ton of friends and my own sister that got false positives on that stupid test. Many then felt they had to go on to get amnios to know 100% sure if there was anything wrong wtih their baby. Not a single one of their babies had any problems - they all gave birth to healthy babies. Yet they endured WEEKS of extreme stress waiting to get further tests done and get those results back.

I'm sure your baby is fine - chances are SO slim there is a problem. And remember, god forbid it shows something, remember that its a very inaccurate test. Don't be afraid to refuse future tests if you don't want to do it.

I wish you the best of luck!

    they are actually not 100%
there have been cases, where the test has came out positive for something and nothing is ever wrong with the child. I didn't take that test, I didn't want to know. There is nothing you can do if the baby has something wrong with it…. My sister actually had it done, they told her that her son was going to be down syndrome, he's gunna be 4 next month.. and NOTHING is wrong with him.

Good luck. Dont stress yourself out.

    You should relax!
The chances of anything being wrong are very, very minimal! Women are mroe liekly to panic of course, because all we are ever hearing about in the media is "a baby born with this disease..a baby born with that disease" when in actual fact birth defects are very rare in healthy pregnancies.

Even in the very slight chance your baby has slight 'markers' for diseases such as Down syndrome, only 1 in 10 of those 'slight marker' cases actually produce a child with down syndrome, so it's not likely at all!

I wouldnt worry. I just had my quad screen done and it came back fine.
If you had your quad screen done on the 17th and havent heard anything then I am sure your fine. those tests only take a few days to come back if something is wrong they will contact you via phone right away. if nothing is wrong they will send you something in the mail telling you it came back normal. and getting it in the mail will take a while.
